There are very few things I can think of that could match
the creepiness of this concept, a nightmare specifically designed just for you
is not something I am really comfortable thinking about. Thankfully the
nightmares aren’t the real monster of this piece; in fact the monster of this
piece isn’t so much a monster but a mistreated prisoner who is being fed people
who have faith in place of prison dinners. The Doctor immediately sets to work
trying to save his new found companions within moments of landing the Tardis in
this strange place.
One of the beautiful things about this episode is the way it
transitions from a monstrous tale of a monster preying on the faith of the
frightened people ensnared in its trap, to the tragic story of a misunderstood
alien who is being kept alive by instinct against its will in the space of only
a few moments. This episode really showcases the Doctor’s innate ability to
understand and help the people around him, he uses this ability to grant the Minotaur
its last wish, a chance to die and leave its existence behind.

her 11 year old self waiting for the Doctor, he realises what he needs to do. The Doctor pulls apart Amy’s faith in him in the most wonderfully selfless way so that she can be saved and it is a real goosebump moment.
A wonderful episode, full on 5/5
